Established on the 31st of January 2015 at the 24th Ordinary Assembly of the Heads of States of the African Union, Agenda 2063 is the shared strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Originally established on the 26th of May 2013, Agenda 2063 acts as a plan to remodel Africa into a major social and economic force for the future. The plan outlines how African leaders will focus on and highlight the Pan African vision of ‘an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens, representing a dynamic force in the international arena’ within a 50-year period (2013-2063). The goals proposed include economic development, political integration and independence, gender equality, and the establishment of democracy, justice, peace and security throughout the African continent.
The necessity to compose a long-term plan for the development of the continent is brought upon by transformations throughout the continent, including increasing peace, globalization, gender equality, economic and social growth, youth empowerment, and the rapid growth of ICT.
